If Ed Hardy designed a Glock

I would like you all to take a minute. Close your eyes and try and remember back into the past with me. The Year is 2007 and everywhere you look, you see “Affliction” Shirts, “Ed Hardy” outfits and Buckle Jeans. Everyone has over-gelled Spiked hair and G.T.L. is still an annoying thing. Now pretend that all that horrific style got transferred over to one of the hottest Glocks on the market.

Introducing the Laser engraved Tiffany Blue Glock 43 with Rose frame etching! This gun will either have a Love it or hate it response. Just like any custom gun. I’ll be honest too. I don’t hate it. The laser stippling is well done and the color isn’t my favorite, but I have definitely seen worse out there. This was a limited run done for a specific distributor.

Most people would pay full price for the gun and then send it out to have this work done to it. They would probably pay another $500 on top of the price of the gun for this kind of work. So if you’re still living in the Ed Hardy era and you like stuff like this. Then it’s definitely a deal! You’re basically paying for the gun and getting all the framework for free. Everyone has a different taste for firearms and about them being customized or not. Either way, these are pretty unique guns. We had a couple pop into the shop and they will undoubtedly sell fast. Regardless of what I personally think about guns like these, the positive thing is, that it’s going to be somebody’s carry gun. I’d rather them carry this gun to match their style than to not carry one at all.

COVERTLY the Best CCW!

In this case right here, is what I would consider one of the best CCW guns on the market. I say this for many reasons.

Let me introduce to you the ZEV Technologies Elite Covert OZ9. The number one reason I would consider this one of the best CCW options is because it is exactly the correct configuration that most avid CCW shooters have been asking for. In the Glock world, people have been asking for a Long slide on a short frame for literally YEARS. They have been beating around the bush and not doing one from the factory. Other companies have come out with 19L slides and polymer 80 shorter frames. Just, unfortunately, falling short in one way or another.

The Covert is essentially a 17 slide on a 19 frame. Combining 2 of the best/ most carried handguns in the country. You get the benefit of the longer slide and barrel with the shorter more compact and easy to conceal frame. Some people can conceal a 19 with no problem. Some would like the full size 17 because of the better capacity and grip, but the added length to the frame sticks out and prints on your person more than lots of people would like.

Zev has taken the configuration that lots of people have asked for. Made a quality pistol to fit the build. Then given you the option that if you don’t like it, No problem. Just swap out the slide for a shorter slide and you have a normal 19 sized firearm. Not your cup of tea either? No problem. Just change the grip to a 17 grip and now you have a normal 17 sized firearm.

The ability to have the full size barrel, the longer sight radius and the slight increase in accuracy. When carrying a gun I would say that most people would agree that you want as many advantages as possible. So all those factors come into play. It stinks when you have to sacrifice capacity and accuracy for a smaller gun thats easier to conceal. Thanks to ZEV, you no longer have to do that though.

The ZEV OZ9 series of pistols just drip and ooze quality. They are perfectly machined guns and I would have no worries carrying one on a daily basis. We did not get many of these guns in and they are in super high demand. So head over to the website and snag one before you miss your chance!

The RMRcc Has Arrived!

The time has finally come! The long-awaited RMRcc has finally graced us with its presence in the building. The one red dot to rule them all….. I’m sure you can sense the sarcasm in my Voice? Keystrokes? Wording? I don’t know what you call this. I would say I speak for many red dot users in the gun industry right now.

Let’s start with the good though. This smaller RMR version of the regular RMR that Trijicon has dominated the market with. It appears to be made of the same material, same glass clarity, rugged housing, and adjustable buttons. Everything about this optic screams quality and makes me think it would be one of the best choices for an optic for any handgun out there.

The downside. It’s almost 1 year too late and fits a footprint literally nobody has. When Holosun teased their slim line of optics for compact/ subcompact guns everyone was super excited. Holosun was filling a gap in the market that nobody else was yet. We knew with their success that soon Trijicon would follow. Oh, and they did. They announced a smaller version of the RMR that would compete! But your gun wasn’t cut for it. it didn’t fit the Holosun footprint. It didn’t fit the older Trijicon footprint. It didn’t even fit the Shield RMSC footprint. Instead, you would have to have an adapter plate (nobody was making at the time) or buy a new slide and have it cut for the new RMRcc footprint. Something I would say the majority of the market wasn’t willing to do.

While it sucks that the footprint wasn’t going to be adaptable very easily, you would assume that if you wanted the best of the best carry optic it would be worth the money convert to it since your life and possibly others would be on the line. Then the Holosun 507K got nothing but great reviews out of the gate. I even personally own one. The 507K was definitely giving the RMRcc a run for its money. It’s been out for a longer time, it fits already existing footprints and comes in at a cheaper price.

Now that the RMRcc is FINALLY being released, what do you think the chances of its success are going to be? Do you see people converting slides with new optic cuts or adapter plates? Do you think that Holosun managed to beat them and corner this market? There are so many options right now. While I know I just bashed the RMRcc a decent amount. It is out of frustration with the product and not with the actual quality. I am a huge Trijicon guy and I carry a RMR or SRO on every handgun I own. I was so excited for the smaller version to fit on my 43x and 48 MOS and other subcompact guns. I wanted the same ruggedness for my guns that the RMR was already giving me and the Holosun was not. That’s where the frustration is. They came in late to the game and I caved for the Holosun and now having an internal struggle to decide if I want to be that person that converts or not.

I plan on purchasing one of these and at least testing it. Trijicon is known for surviving pretty much every torture test out there where other optics fail at all the time. They have great battery life and an excellent warranty if you ever need to use them. There’s a little bit of trust that comes along with buying an optic with the “Trijicon” name painted on the side. There no denying that they have earned their name and reputation for sure.

I am super interested in hearing everyone else’s thoughts on this optic. As it truly has been long-awaited. It has the chance to once again dominate another corner of the market it’s moved into. But it needs consumer support to do that. We have to be the ones to back it up. If you don’t have an optic on a slim gun, but what one. Which route would you be going? My criticism only really affects those of us that chose different platforms while waiting on the RMRcc. We have these in stock. I’m going to test one. If you pick one up and have any thoughts, tag us in them on IG or Facebook and let’s talk about it! Until then. Stay safe and Healthy!

New Mag on the Block

Pictures From the Strike Industries Website

SURPRISE! Strike Industries has dropped another new product this year! I say that because they seem to have a new product release every week it seems like. However, lots of times the products are great and in super high demand. Just like the one they shipped us this week.

They teased them for the longest time and we finally got our first batch. These are Glock 17 Strike magazines that will work with gen 1-5. They are a cool translucent design so you can always see your round count when you look at the mag. One of the only other places doing translucent Glock magazines is ETS and it will be nice having a competitor on the block for them.

They released the 17rd Glock17 mags first. We expect the 19 mags and other capacity mags to soon follow. They will work with the Strike EMP for Glock mags as well. Bumping the capacity up to a whopping 23rds! If they are the same quality as the normal Strike products we have come to know and love, then they will easily exceed our expectations. What do you guys think about aftermarket mags for daily carry? How many rounds of ammo without any malfunctions do you test to make it worthy? Do you even test your mags at all? Some people just load a brand new mag and go. Would like to know what your opinions are. If you get a chance to swing over to the website check these guys out and snag yourself a couple.

CHILI TOWN SURPLUS

Many people know that over the years AimSurplus has not fallen too deep into the “Swag” Game. We have only had stickers or t-shirts made a few times. With only slight variations when they do happen. Then a few years ago we changed up our Logo big time and added the Stars and Stripes!

Now it’s a logo you’ll recognize any time you see it. We like the idea of that, but we also like some of the older iconic logos we see in our daily lives anyway. If you’ve been following AimSurplus for a long time you know about our love for a small time local Chili Restaurant. Our newest logo and our newest piece of swag is paying homage to that. These are only going to be a limited run and there will not be a second batch made. If you’re a local of Cincinnati, you’ll instantly recognize where we got our inspiration from.

Head to the website and grab one of these high quality, taste of Cincinnati, limited edition shirts now! Like I said, there were not a lot of them and they will not last long.

Easter Mags for your Basket

Everyone knows we here at AimSurplus LOVE Duramags. They are some of our favorite cost effective, colorful and quality magazines. They make a ton of different mags for a ton of different calibers. Lots of the calibers they make magazines for, they are the only one doing it. Which is awfully cool of them to be doing for those guys who are looking to buy a complete magazine and not have to modify an existing magazine to try a new caliber or to load a wildcat round.

One of the things they are most known for are their colorful aluminum magazines. They come in a wide variety of colors: Black, Blue, Red, Pink, Green, OD Green, Grey and Bronze. I even heard a rumor they were going to finally start doing a FDE 20rd magazine in the near future. Which means that for all of us that want the colors in different calibers and sizes, might just be in luck.

Please enjoy these pictures from my personal Easter celebration. While the bunny may be slightly creepy, pay attention to how well the Pink and Blue magazines compliment the rifle and Bunny so well. If you’re interested in picking up some of these magazines yourself, we have them over on the website. We get shipments from Duramag daily. So if the color you are looking for is out of stock, just sign up for the restock email and hop on them when you see them come back in stock!

A Newer Rare Breed of Lowers

There are a lot of big debates in the gun world. Lots of “operators” who don’t use products that look good, and “FUDDS” that only use the products operators don’t. One thing that I have learned being a shooter and being in the industry is that for the most part, a lower. Is a lower. Its glorified duct tape. It just holds the important parts together. Its a low stress part and for the most part minus any truly functionally different parts, its purely aesthetic.

Some people think your guns are tools and they shouldn’t look good. Some people think its cool to have a safe full of queens that do nothing but look good and almost never get shot. I don’t find myself falling into this category too much, but when I saw this lower. I just instantly wanted it.

This is a Spikes Tactical and Rare Breed colaboration. It is a .223/5.56 Multi caliber Billet lower. With one of the coolest designs they have ever done. We have seen the Punisher skull, the Warthog, the Crusader and the Spartan lowers. This is the new Samurai Lower with some badass cerakote work done to it.

These lowers are billet with a tension set screw. A sick looking Samurai/Demon helmet on the front and an oversized trigger guard. They are super lightweight and the quality of them is insane in the hand. Would be a cool show piece or even just the start to a really cool build.

We only got a few of the Cerakoted stripped lowers in and we expect them to go fast. Check them out on the website and make sure to snag one while they are being produced!

704 Tactical BCG Reviews!

We sent a couple of our in house AimSurplus branded bolt carrier groups over to our friends at 704 Tactical. They were kind enough to put together this video review of them. Go ahead and click the link and watch their review! If you wanna subscribe to them and stay up to date with their videos they are commonly testing AIM parts.

Let them know you made your way to their video from over here and show them some support. Its always nice to support those that support you in the industry and very few places give good honest reviews. Let us know what you think about their video and your experience with our BCGS!

ZRO Delta Rifle

ZRO Delta is a brand that everybody either knows or has never heard of. Its kind of funny that companies like this even exist in the gun world. Usually once you make a name for yourself it kinda sticks. I think people just don’t know how well of a name they have because they have so many good names. For instance, ZRO Delta is also under the same umbrella as Unbranded AR Parts and U.S. Optics.

If you know about the quality behind those companies then you can know what to expect with this rifle. It comes with a super lightweight and low profile Handguard. 1:8 Twist .223Wylde barrel with a mid length gas system. Forged upper and lower receiver with a minimalist logo. So there’s no giant roll mark on the side that awful to look at. Its tastefully done and hidden out of the way. Even giving yourself room to put your own on there if you really wanted to. A super comfortable stock and an A2 grip that you’ll probably toss in the parts bin to put your preferred grip on anyway. They have done a great job of saving you money in places that they can and still giving you a great quality rifle.

Find these on our website and take a look at them. Full of all kinds of features and specs that you would expect out of a quality rifle like this. Would make the perfect base rifle for any home defense, hunting or sport shooting setup that you could imagine.
